"Downfall of Boney" Lasalle 28mm Napoleonics at BattleCry 2012

E-mail Print

Lasalle Rulebook CoverThe AWC will be running a Lasalle 28mm Napoleonics event at BattleCry 2012, with the theme "The Downfall of Boney 1813-1815"* over the Saturday and Sunday (18 & 19 February 2012). Armies will be points based using a modified version of the AWC's points system originally developed by Cam Millar, and tables are planned to be 8' x 6' with fixed terrain. It is intended to have 2 rounds per day (so 4 rounds total) with the first day emphasising games between opponents who normally don't have the opportunity to play each other. More details can be found at the BattleCry 2012 Website.

* Armies outside this period will also be permitted if players have no other option - but it's hoped everyone will get into the 'swing of things' and bring armies from the Liberation & Hundred Days period.

Stop Press: 01 February 2012: This event has been cancelled due to lack of Registrations.

NatCon 2012 Details!

E-mail Print

Hamilton ImmortalsThe Hamilton Immortals have released initial information about NatCon 2012 (Easter Friday 06 to Sunday 08 April). Competitions being offered are Warhammer Fantasy Battle, Warhammer 40K, Lord of the Rings, Warmachine, Napoleonics (15mm 1st Volley), Napoleonics (28mm Lasalle), Napoleonics (15mm/28mm FoGN), FoW (seperate Early, Mid, & Late WW2 Tournaments), FoG Ancients/Medieval*, DBM & DBMM Ancients/Medieval (15mm & 28mm), DBR and/or FoGR Renaissance (15mm and/or 28mm depending on entrants).

The identity of the venue has not yet been stated at the time of writing, but is apparantly one that requires an early finish (2.30pm on the Sunday) and has restrictions on capacity, so some of the (Historical Period) Tournaments are shortened and will only be 5 rounds instead of the usual 6 (as there is not time for a second game on the Sunday) and only a maximum of 200 people will be able to attend for all periods & tournaments. Registrations open on 01 January 2012 ($60), increase on 01 March 2012 ($80), and increase again for "late" registrations on 14 March 2012 ($100) - Registrations close on Tuesday 20 March 2012, and after that date entries will only be accepted at the Organisers' discretion to balance out competitions with odd numbers, etc, and such like (and may be charged at either $60 or $100 according to the info flyer) - so we suggest you get your registrations in as early as possible due to the above... Further details at the Hamilton Immortals Wiki...

* Note that FoG Ancients & Medieval has no scale specified (although we believe an umpire is now confirmed).

AWC 15mm Lasalle Tournament

E-mail Print

Lasalle Napoleonic RulesThe AWC’s Lasalle Napoleonic Tournament in 15mm scale is due to start soon. It has yet to be confirmed if players will get 1 or 2 Support options – but looks most likely just one for this initial competition (as many players are still busy painting their figures and learning the rules). The Tournament will be played over the course of several weeks with games occuring either at AWC meetings or at mutually agreed alternate venues.

It’s hoped to have the entrants confirmed by Sunday 23 January 2011 if possible so the competition can begin in February – so any members interested should check out the AWC Yahoo Group for more details and advise the organiser of their Army & Theatre (i.e. sub-period) for the competition. Napoleonic Gamers in the Auckland and Waikato (& similar) regions who are not AWC Members and are interested in participating may be able to do so - they should also contact the organsier through the AWC Group.

A subsequent 28mm scale Tournament is planned for the middle of the year...

FreddyCon – A Seven Years War Convention (October 2011)

E-mail Print

British 25th Foot at Minden in the Seven Year's WarUPDATED: Reg Newell reports that at the Hutt Valley Wargaming Club they have a number of people interested in the SYW. They are trying to gauge whether there might be interest in a 1-2 day convention next year with a SYW theme – probably mainly 28mm Die Kreigskunst, possibly Black Powder, but also skirmish level games, naval, F&IW (French & Indian War), SYW boardgames, etc. There is no specific date in mind at this time other than beyond midway through next year.

Der Kreigskunst is a set of battalion level rules based on the General De Brigade system. Battalions are 4-6 bases of 4 castings on a 40x40mm base. Cavalry are in units of 20 or so castings. Many people have SYW armies in mothballs and this might be a good opportunity to dust them off and give them a run
