The New Zealand Wargaming National Convention (NatCon) is being hosted this year by the Hutt (Valley) Wargaming Club at St Patrick’s College in Silverstream, Upper Hutt. Veterans of previous Hutt Club conventions will be familiar with this hall. As usual the even runs over Easter, which this year is relatively early (29-31 March), and registrations are $50 up until the 25 January, after which they are $75 (all registrations and entries after this date are subject to the consent & discretion of the convention organiser and/or tournament umpire).
There will be a traditional convention dinner on the Sunday night (in Trentham, Upper Hutt), with a cost of $25. Currently there are 9 Tournaments available, and these are:
Come along and attend BattleCry, Auckland’s largest all-round weekend gaming convention. On hand will be all manner of roleplaying, wargaming, cardgaming, and live-action tournaments and events, as well as a collection of stalls and displays of gaming materials. We welcome all comers, from experienced gamers to those of you out there that are merely curious as to what it is all about.
Entry into the venue is free, and we will have a number of likewise free events and demonstration games to keep you entertained during your time at BattleCry. If you are however interested in taking part in one or more of the tournaments being held over the weekend, there is a cost and we encourage you to pre-register and pay as early as possible to ensure a place, with prizes on hand for all such tournaments. Tournaments include:
With the demise of the old Facebook Groups, we have opted not to upgrade the existing group to the new format. Instead the AWC now has a new Facebook Page which will make communicating news and events easier and more public.
The AWC will be running a Lasalle 28mm Napoleonics event at BattleCry 2012, with the theme “The Downfall of Boney 1813-1815“* over the Saturday and Sunday (18 & 19 February 2012). Armies will be points based using a modified version of the AWC’s points system originally developed by Cam Millar, and tables are planned to be 8′ x 6′ with fixed terrain. It is intended to have 2 rounds per day (so 4 rounds total) with the first day emphasising games between opponents who normally don’t have the opportunity to play each other. More details can be found at the BattleCry 2012 Website.
* Armies outside this period will also be permitted if players have no other option – but it’s hoped everyone will get into the ‘swing of things’ and bring armies from the Liberation & Hundred Days period.
Stop Press: 01 February 2012: This event has been cancelled due to lack of Registrations.
Push of Pike 2011 is a Renaissance Wargaming Tournament run each year by the NSWC. Competition is being offered in 15mm & 28mm for DBR and FOGR depending on numbers. Note that DBR will use the revised NZ points not the standard DBR ones. More details on PoP 2011 are here…

After some discussion, the committee have decided to give evening meetings another go. Thursday has been chosen by default (the only other evening the hall was free was Friday – erm NO!). Fridays were tried – and failed. The meetings will be held on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of the month from February until the end of June. The first meeting will be Thursday 17 February and the meetings will be from 1900 – 2300 (7pm – 11pm).
For those interested in TSATF (The Sword And The Flame) and/or Colonial Gaming – Gerry from Castaway Arts will be attending BattleCry 2011 (19-20 February) and will both have a trade stand with a selection of his products available, plus he will be running some TSATF demo & participation games on both days, so if Colonial Gaming is your thing be sure to check it out. Gerry will also be participating in a Q&A session & talk on Saturday Evening (along with Kyran of Battlefront Miniatures and Bryan & Glenn of Battleline Miniatures) about running wargaming businesses.
