Ancient Games at the AWC - Page 1
Minoan (or Early Mycenaean) Spear Phalanx supported by Noblemen in Chariots (on left) and Skirmishing Light Archers (on right and in rear). The Minoans were present on Crete, Santorini, and other parts of the Aegean from about 2400 BC until 1650 BC when the Volcano on Santorini (or Thera) seriously weakened their civilisation, which gave rise to the legend of Atlantis, and allowed the Mycenaean's from mainland Greece to conquer them. These are 25mm Foundry figures from the collection of John Moher.
A completely different proposition altogether - Celtic Warriors, often known as 'Warband' because of their ferocious but undisciplined style of fighting. These Celtic Warbands are part of Hannibal's famous Carthaginian Army that crossed the Alps and fought Rome. These are 25mm figures from the collection of Andrew 'Benny' Bennetts.
Late Romans; from the 'Late Imperial' or 'Patrician' period, when Rome was on the wane and her empire was being plundered by one band of barbarians after another! These 'Auxilia' are being supported by Skirmishing Light Archers and in the rear of photo Roman Light Horse. 25mm Figures from the collection of Nick Buckby.
Abbasid Arab Spearmen - from the age of the Muslim Conquest! 15mm figures from the collection of Richard 'Dick' Hornell.
Anachronistic Battles! Minoans from 1700 BC square off against Eastern Patrician Romans from 450 AD! Libyan Mercenary Skirmishers supported by Minoan Noblemen in Chariots take on Roman 'Auxilia' and 'Legionaries' who are supported by Light Archers. Shot from a 25mm DBM competition game, figures from the collections of Nick Buckby & John Moher. |
