Auckland Wargaming Club news, along with that from the Auckland Region, the rest of New Zealand, and anything pertinent from the Wargaming Community Internationally.
At the last club meeting we had an impromptu KOW themed day. It started with someone looking for a game of KOW and then that became 4 people, and by the time the day came around we 10 players! So we played 2 rounds of 1500pt games and swapped opponents and tables between games.
There was a good mix of armies with
- Abysmal dwarves x2
- Ratkin x2
- Empire of Dust
- Woodland Elves
- Kingdom of men (Greek themed)
- Forces of Basiliea
We are looking to have more KOW themed days at the club as everyone really enjoyed the buzz, and there is at least 3 more members who play KOW and couldn’t make or were playing other games.
And onto the game pictures

On the 2nd of October we ran a DBA 3.0 tournament down at the club.We originally had 14 players interested but there was a couple of cancellations/no shows, so we were down to 11 players (10 after lunch). Overall a very good turnout.
After some discussions prior to the event we decided to keep it simple and there wasn’t any kind of theme to the day apart from enjoying oneself. Everyone was using 15mm armies but interest in 6mm was also voiced, so perhaps next time you will see some more scales. Continue reading
We have have had a resurgence in DBA at our club since V3.0 has come out, and so we are going to to have a DBA open day on Sunday the 2nd of October. This is open to anyone in the Super City area of Auckland or beyond. Entry is free!
The proposed scale is 15mm and the rules are DBA3.0 but if anyone wants to play in 6mm or 28mm your welcome to. For those scales I would suggest bringing matching pairs. There will be spare armies to loan to others mostly in 15mm. Also bring your own mats and terrain (although we have some). Continue reading
A good meeting this time with a interesting mix of figures and period. I even managed to get the player to provide some feedback back on their games so we have a good roundup of the meeting.
Day:Due to the lovely Auckland weather, there was only two tables going at this meeting, one was part of the perennial historical struggle between the realms of the Dwarves and Elves using 28mm Kings of War. It seemed to be a ding-dong battle when I left the meeting but I heard later that the Dwarves triumphed, mainly through the Elves insisting on bringing edged weapons to a gunfight…
There were three tables going for the meeting on the 20th of December, despite the usual pre-Christmas madness.
15mm WW2 Crossfire
Mike and Grant had another go at 15mm WW2 with the Crossfire rules – Early Eastern Front with the Soviets taking on a mixed Hungarian/German force.
This time around they tried out the rules for a meeting engagement, 2 companies plus 30pts each side, and with a slight change in that each side’s objective was secret, being set by another member. In general the game was fun, the highlight being an extended duel between a T26 and a Hungarian Toldi (the T26 triumphed!). Continue reading
Last meeting we organised a Saga Dark Ages tournament here at the AWC. Even with a couple of late cancellations we had 10 Saga players, along with 4 other games at the club that day. Everyone turned up with Dark Ages armies and we had a good mix of armies all up:-
- Anglo-Saxons with Alfred
- Scots with Macbeth
- Normans x 2
- Skraelings x 2
- Vikings x 3
Unfortunately getting setup and the first round under way, meant that I was too busy to take any photos. By the second round I remembered to snap some photos but since I was playing, I didn’t have as much time as I would have liked to follow each game. So on to some game photos and comments.
Round 2 Battle at the Ford/ Defend the Homeland
Wayne’s Viking (with Beserkers) vs Rob’s Skraelings, early in the game.
The Auckland Wargames club presents a Saga tournament day. Bring along your Warband and see who is the strongest Warlord!
This is intended to be a fun and friendly event and if the day goes well, we will probably have another one. Continue reading
